Three men were caught in Diepsloot a few minutes after they allegedly threatened and robbed a man of his cellphone on Friday morning. The suspects were reportedly armed with a knife and a handgun.
It is believed that the suspects followed the victim from extension two. They pounced as soon as he entered an isolated area. The victim dashed a few hundred metres to reach the police station. He alerted the police.
The local police took a decision to prioritize locating suspects over registering a case first. That proved crucial. With the assistance from the complainant, the suspects were spotted in no time. They fled into a veld. The police alighted from their patrol van and chased until they caught the three suspects. A toy gun and knife were seized. The victim’s cellphone was recovered.
Two 22-year-olds and a 23-year-old suspects will be charged with armed robbery. They will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon
