Three injured in Claremont collision

Three people, including a boy believed to be 5 years old, were injured this afternoon when two vehicles collided at the Race Course and M5 Road intersection in Claremont in the Western Cape.

When ER24 paramedics, as well as other services, arrived on scene, they found a bakkie and light motor vehicle lying in the middle of the intersection.
On assessment, paramedics discovered that a woman lay trapped inside the light motor vehicle while her child lay in the back seat. Both patients had sustained moderate injuries in the collision. The driver of the light motor vehicle was found with minor injuries, walking around on scene.
Paramedics began their treatment of the patients while Metro services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle in a 30 minute operation.

Once the woman was freed and the patients treated, they were transported to various hospitals for further treatment and observations.
The driver of the bakkie fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
