1 Dead and 2 critical after collision with bus in Durban

One person has died and two other people have sustained critical injuries after the vehicle they were in collided with a bus on Franscois Road and Manning Road just after 15:30pm.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on scene to find that the bus had collided with the car in a T Bone format, the car then collided with a tree. Two people were entrapped in the front of the wreckage whilst the rear passenger had also sustained critical injuries. Immediately Durban Fire and Rescue were called as well as Advanced Life Support units. The driver of the vehicle had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing further paramedics could do to assist him. The passenger was entrapped in the wreckage and was placed on a manual ventilator whilst still in the vehicle. The jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment was used to free her from the wreckage. Once carefully extricated both critically injured patients were transported by Rescue Care to nearby hospitals. One passenger from the bus had sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
