Man airlifted after collision

A man in his 20s is in a critical condition this afternoon after a motor vehicle collision on the R54 30 kilometres outside of Potchefstroom, North West Province.

ER24 paramedics from the Potchefstroom base arrived on scene and found the light motor vehicle on the side of the road on its roof. The body of the driver lay a few meters away from the vehicle.

On assessment, paramedics found the patient has sustained severe injuries to his head and chest and was in a critical condition.

Paramedics treated the patients as well as providing him with advanced life support to stabilize his vital signs.

Once treated, he was airlifted by the AER24 helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg for urgent medical treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
