On Tuesday Netcare 911 paramedics held an extensive rescue training day at the air force base in Durban, it started with a safety lecture around the helicopter and the equipment that would be used for rescuing patients when the need arise.

After that the paramedics and their patients were hoisted into the helicopter first using a strop attached to the hoist and then simulating a critically injured person, the patient was immobilised in a stokes basket and hoisted up to the helicopter with the paramedic secured next to the stokes.
