16 injured in taxi collision west of Johannesburg

A çollision between a bakkie and taxi at the Main Reef and Camando Road intersection, west of Johannesburg, has left 16 people injured this evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the two wrecked vehicles lying in the middle of the intersection. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage.

On inspection, paramedics discovered that 16 people were injured in the collision, three of them critically. The driver of the taxi lay trapped inside his vehicle in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the man in a 30 minute operation.

Once freed, paramedics provided the driver and two other critically injured patients with advanced life support.

The 13 other patients found on scene where treated for their injuries, which ranged from minor to moderate.

Once all the patients were treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
