A man in his 70s was killed and four others injured this afternoon when two vehicles collided on the N1, 40 km outside of Bloemfontein.
ER24 paramedics from the Bloemfontein branch arrived on scene to find on vehicle lying on the side of the road while the other sat in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a severe amount of damage in the collision.
On assessment, paramedics discovered the lifeless body a man in his 70s lying 10 metres away from his vehicle that lay in the veld. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his fatal injuries.
Four other patients were found on scene, including a child aged roughly one year old. All four patients were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries on scene and thereafter transported them to Mediclinic Bloemfontein and Pelonomi Hospital for further medical treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
