A man was critically injured following a rear-end collision on the N1 south bound near Lynnwood Road in Lynnwood, Pretoria this evening.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that two heavy goods vehicles were involved in a rear-end accident. One of the heavy goods vehicles sustained severe frontal damage due to the impact. Upon assessment of the occupants they found that a twenty-three-year-old man was entrapped in the one vehicle and the fire department had to make use of the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from the vehicle.
Upon assessment of the man, paramedics found him to be in a critical condition and the Netcare1 helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured man to hospital for the urgent medical care that he required.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
Traffic was severely affected as a result of the accident and during the landing of the helicopter on the roadway.
