A 4-year-old boy is in a critical condition this afternoon after he was hit by a light motor vehicle on the Edendale Road in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the young boy lying on his back in the dirt in a critical condition. The patient’s guardian was found sitting next to the child.
Paramedics assessed the patient and found that he had sustained severe injuries to his head and chest. Paramedics had to provide the patient with advanced life support to stabilise his condition.
Once treated and stable, he was transported to Edendale Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Fortunately the driver of the light motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the incident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
