8 Injured in taxi crash at intersection in Pietermaritzburg

A side impact accident at the intersection of Chapel and Pietermaritz Street late last night has left eight people injured, one seriously so. Reports from the scene indicate that the taxi was taking workers from a chain store home whet a bakkie collided into its side in the intersection.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the taxi had overturned on impact and its twisted frame came to rest on its side at the side of the roadway. After triaging medics found that one taxi commuter had sustained serious injuries while seven miraculously escaped with minor injuries, the driver of the bakkie escaped uninjured.

Medics worked fervently to stabilise the injured on scene before they transported them to a local hospital for the care that they required.
