Driving licence bookings in KZN to go online soon

Long queues at licensing stations are soon to be a thing of the past as the public will soon be able to book for their learners and driving tests online.
MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu said the electronic system will first be piloted at Mkhondeni Testing Centre in Pietermaritzburg.

This new system follows Mchunu’s unannounced visit to the Pinetown Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTC) in October last year where the public expressed anger at the long queues and the waiting times at the DLTCs. One applicant challenged the MEC on why bookings for tests cannot be done on-line.

“It pleases me to announce that the RTI will soon pilot the online booking for learner and driver license tests.

The system will minimise the backlog currently being experienced at DLTCs. Once this program is proven to be a success at Mkhondeni, it will then be rolled-out to other DLTC’s operated by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport such as Rossburgh, Pinetown, Newcastle and Empangeni – possibly during 2016 and further on to Municipalities,” said Mchunu.
