Four injured in truck collision

Four people were injured last night after a transporter collided with a truck on the N12 near Etwatwa, East of Johannesburg.

Paramedics from the ER24 Johannesburg East branch arrived on scene and found both vehicle in the middle of the highway. Car parts from both vehicle were spread across the accident scene.

On assessment, paramedics discovered that the driver of the transporter lay trapped behind the steering wheel in a critical condition while the three passengers sustained only minor injuries.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped patient in a one hour operations.

Once freed, paramedics provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support and treated the patients with minor injuries.

The critically injured patients was later airlifted to a private hospital for urgent medical treatment while the three other patients were transported by ambulance to Sunshine Hospital for further observations.

The driver of the truck was not found on scene.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
