One killed and 41 injured in bus collision on Jan Smuts Avenue in Saxonwold

One person, believed to be a bus driver, has been declared dead and at least 41 patients are being treated for minor to critical injuries following a collision involving two buses on Jan Smuts Avenue in Saxonwold.

ER24 paramedics, Fire and Rescue Services and other services and currently on scene treating patients. Fire and Rescue Services is extricating people from the buses, one of which is a pregnant woman.

Patients are being transported to various hospitals.

Update:

A total of 65 people were injured in this morning’s bus collision on Jan Smuts Avenue in Saxonwold.

ER24, other services, authorities and Urban Search and Rescue are still on scene. Specialised medical rescue equipment is being used to extricate a bus driver and a passenger who are still  trapped.
A heavy tow truck is being used to pull the buses apart to rescue the patients.
