Passenger critically injured after collision with tree, Durban

A male passenger is in a critical condition after the vehicle he was in collided with a tree on Newlands West Drive near Fosa just before midnight last night.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find the critically injured passenger still in the vehicle. The driver had absconded from scene. Paramedics worked to stabilize the man before carefully extricating him from the wreckage. Once extricated Advanced Life Support intervention was performed to stabilize the injured patient. Once stabilized the patient was transported to a nearby Durban Hospital for the further care that he required.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and collide with a tree however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
