13 children injured in bakkie collision in Rynsoord, Benoni

13 children were injured this morning after a bakkie left the road and crashed through a wall in Albert Street in Rynsoord, Benoni.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived at the residence and found the wrecked bakkie up against another vehicle in the yard. Numerous children that been in the bakkie were found walking around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed the children and found that 13 of them, aged between 8 and 12, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately no-one had sustained any serious injuries.

The children were treated on scene for their injuries and thereafter transported them to various hospitals including Sunshine Hospital for further medical attention.

It is understood that the driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to crash through a residences wall and come to rest against a parked light motor vehicle. The bakkie had apparently been transported numerous children to school when the collision occurred.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by local authorities.
