2 Killed, 14 injured in multiple car pile up Durban

Two road workers have been killed and two have been injured on critically so after they were knocked down by a vehicle involved in a four vehicle collision at the corner of Avondale Road and Sydenham Road at approximately 13:20 today.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find total chaos. The four road workers were in the centre island in the centre medium when a vehicle collided with them and three other vehicles. Paramedics found that two of the workers were stuck under one of the vehicles. Unfortunately two workers had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene by Paramedics.

Advanced Life Support paramedics from Rescue Care and ER24 worked frantically to stabilize a critically injured worker and placed her on a ventilator on the scene. Once she had been stabilized she was rushed through to Chief Albert Inkosi Luthuli Hospital for the further care that she required. There was also a school transport vehicle involved and eight young children sustained minor injuries. A further thirteen people from all the vehicles were treated on scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however the SAPS Collision Unit was on scene and will be investigating further.
