Jaws of life needed to cut men free from wreckage

Two men,one in his thirties and the other late fifties, had to be cut free from the vehicle they were traveling in after a serious motor vehicle collision on the R102 near Phoenix in the early hours of Saturday morning (2015/05/23).

Crisis Medical Paramedics arrived on scene to find the two men mechanically entrapped in their vehicle after the driver had allegedly lost control while traveling towards Umhlanga Rocks,colliding at high speed with a New Jersey barrier.

A request for the assistance of Ethekwini Fire and Rescue was made and once on scene,rescue technicians worked to free the men, cutting them out with the jaws of life.

Both men sustained moderate injuries and Intermediate life support intervention was needed before they were placed on to specialized stretchers and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

The exact facts leading up to the incident are unclear and the necessary authorities will investigate further.
