Man lucky to be alive after alleged hit and run

A thirty year old man is lucky to be alive after an alleged hit and run collision between two light motor vehicles on the M4 near La Lucia in the early hours of Sunday morning (2015/05/17).

Crisis medical paramedics arrived on scene to find a light motor vehicle off the road and down an embankment with excessive damage. The driver was still in the vehicle having sustained suspected spinal cord injuries, he was carefully extricated using specialised equipment.

Advanced life support intervention was required to stabilize the man before he was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

It is alleged that another vehicle collided into the rear of the vehicle at high speed causing it to careen off the roadway and down the embankment.

Bystanders further allege that the second vehicle fled the scene however the facts are unclear. The local authorities were on scene and investigations are underway.
