The ONLY Comrades Spectator Spot is the Sensational #NedbankGreenMile Camperdown Carnival

The #NedbankGreenMile is pumped up to be the only official spectator spot and is calling on all Comrades supporters and visitors to join the electrifying festivities at the ‘Comrades Carnival’ in Camperdown on 31 May.

Spectators will be spoilt for choice as they experience a ‘Mardi Gras-style’ extravaganza with flamboyant carnival dancers, highly-skilled cheerleaders, fun morphsuit characters and freaky ‘larger than life’ puppets parade along the mile to the beat of local marimba and steel drum bands.

Joining the procession with their energizing, rhythmic marching will be Scottish bag pipe players and the Durban Police Marching band.

Performing on stage will be the three-piece rock outfit Catlike Thieves, acoustic rock band Parable 15 and Durban’s popular cover band Afritude.

The family-friendly #NedbankGreenMile is famous for its top-notch Kids Zone that includes jumping castles, face-painting, a petting zoo, magic shows, balloon artists, stilt walkers, jugglers and clouds. The Kids Zone will also have exciting games, a colouring-in area and creative sand art. There will be security at the Kids Zone so that kids can be left to enjoy themselves while parents can watch for their friends and family on the road.

A number of food stores including GoodEnuf2Eat, Gemelli Pizza Cones, Chinese Food and the Camperdown Methodist Church will be serving up delicious food throughout the day, while Archies Mobile Coffee and Caffemobile will be selling hot and cold beverages.

Prime positioning at the mile is always the #NedbankGreenMile grandstands which includes a big screen TV broadcasting live race coverage, and race commentary all day, giving spectators the ‘best seat in the house’ on race day.

#NedbankGreenMile, is open from 08h00 – 14h30 on race day, with free entry.  An easy access car park next to the N3 / race route with parking directional signage will be provided.

So put on your carnival crowns and be part of Comrades experience at the best mile on the course – the award-winning #NedbankGreenMile

Nedbank is an official major sponsor of the 2015 Comrades Marathon.

The first Comrades Marathon took place on 24th May 1921, Empire Day, starting outside the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg with 34 runners. It has continued since then every year with the exception of the war years 1941-1945, with the direction alternating each year between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the so called up & down runs.

The #NedbankGreenMile is the only official spectator point along the marathon route, offering Comrades supporters a perfect vantage point to view all the race action. In 2015 (up run), it is located in Camperdown and is just 26km from the finish line at Alexander Park, Pietermaritzburg.

Entry into the #NedbankGreenMile Spectator Zone is free and festivities start at 8am.

This year the 87-km marathon starts in Durban and ends in Pietermaritzburg on 31 May 2015.
