Two people were killed during the early hours of this morning on the R82 in De Deur near Vereeniging.
Shortly before 3am, paramedics arrived on scene where they found a Corsa bakkie sheered in half. It is believed the bakkie had five occupants in it at the time of the collision. All of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle. A man and a woman sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for them. They were both declared dead on the scene.
Another occupant was found with critical injuries. They [paramedics] treated him for multiple injuries, including fractures.
The other two occupants sustained only moderate injuries and was treated on the scene. The critically injured man as well as the two moderately injured were transported by ER24 and Provincial Emergency Services to Sebokeng Hospital for further treatment.
The exact cause of the incident is not yet known. The local authorities attended the incident.
