Cyclist critically injured when knocked down by bakkie in Pietermaritzburg

A 29-year-old man is in a critical condition this morning after he was knocked off his bicycle by a bakkie on the Crommond Link Road in Karkloof, Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene, and upon arrival, found the male patient lying on his back in the middle of the dirt road. Local farmers had stopped and come to the aid of the cyclist.

On assessment, paramedics found that the patients had sustained a severe injury to his head and required advanced life support treatment.

The patient was treated and immobilised by advanced life support paramedics before he was transported to Greys Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The driver of the bakkie fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
