Diepsloot crash leaves man injured

A man was injured following a crash on the R511 in Diepsloot this morning.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that a heavy goods vehicle crashed against a vehicle resulting in the motor vehicle being pinned partially underneath the heavy goods vehicle.

Other private services and provincial services as well as the fire department were at the scene working together to ensure the injured man received the best possible care.

The fire department had to make use of specialised equipment to extricate the injured entrapped driver from the vehicle. The duration of the extrication rescue operation took more than forty-five minutes, while members of the Johannesburg and Centurion fire departments worked determinedly to free the entrapped man.

Once the man was freed from the vehicle, the roadway was closed off for all traffic in order for the Netcare1 helicopter to land and airlift the injured man to hospital for the urgent medical care he required.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

A huge thank you and well done to all the emergency services at the scene who worked together to ensure the patient received the best possible care and treatment.
