Head-on collision along the R102 on the Illovo river bridge leaves 2 injured

Two people were injured, one seriously so, after two vehicles collided head-on along the R102 on the Illovo river bridge this evening. Exact detail to the cause of the accident is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene and found the drivers of the vehicles still trapped in the twisted frames of their vehicles. The roadway was littered with accident debris with the vehicles about 200 meters apart.

While firemen used the Jaws of life to free the injured paramedics had to clamber into the wreckages to stabilise them. After the firemen managed to remove the roof paramedics immobilised the female driver in a special harness and then placed her on a trauma board before removing her from the vehicle.

After both patients were stabilised medics transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.
