A nineteen year old young man is in a critical condition after he was struck by a light motor vehicle whilst attempting to cross the busy intersection of Inanda and Peters Roads in Newlands East this afternoon.
Crisis Medical paramedics arrived on scene to find the man laying in the roadway having sustained critical injuries. Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize the man before he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him in breathing.
He was carefully placed onto specialized spinal cord immobilization equipment before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further critical care.
Traffic was severely affected as emergency workers worked to clear the scene.
The facts surrounding the incident are unclear and the necessary authorities will investigate further.
