One killed, another serious in Paarden Island collision

A man believed to be in his twenties was killed and another sustained critical injuries when their BMW Z4 crashed on the N1 outbound near Paarden Island bridge in Cape Town.

Paramedics from ER24 were en route to an emergency when they came across the incident at 8pm. They immediately noticed the severe damage to the wreckage and requested extra medical resources. Upon further assessment they found that the driver had no signs of life. Due to the fatal injuries he sustained there was nothing else that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead. A passenger, aslo belived to be in his twenties, was found with critical injuries. Paramedics explained that he barely showed signs of life and they initiated advanced life support.

The passenger was extricated from the vehicle with the help of the local fire department and later transported to Grootte Schuur Hospital for further treatment.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. Local authorities attended the incident.
