Suspect killed after high speed chase and shootout

Last night, at about 19h00, a suspect was arrested following a high speed chase and shootout in Randburg.

It is alleged that the members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad were on patrol when they received an alert of a hijacked Nissan Qashqi. The members noticed the vehicle on the Grayston off-ramp.

A high speed chase ensued. Upon realising that the police were gaining on them, the suspects opened fire. Police responded injuring the suspect.

He was taken to hospital but later died.

An unlicensed firearm was recovered from the scene as well as the hijacked motor vehicle.
