A woman tragically lost her life following a pedestrian accident on Harvey Street in Bloemfontein this evening.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found a woman lying entrapped underneath a bus.
Reports from the scene indicate that the woman lost her balance and fell in front of the bus. The bus then drove over the woman and immediately came to a standstill resulting in the woman being entrapped underneath the bus. However, exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
The fire department had to make use of specialised rescue equipment to extricate the woman from underneath the bus.
Upon assessment paramedics found the woman, believed to be in her forties, to be in a critical condition but after she was removed from underneath the bus, the woman’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Sadly the woman died due to the extensive injuries sustained during the accident. There was nothing further that could be done for the woman and she was declared dead at the scene.
