Car collides with five pedestrians in Edendale

Five pedestrians (two adults, two children and a 19-year-old) sustained several injuries this afternoon when a vehicle collided with them on Edendale Road in Pietermaritzburg.

Shortly after 3pm paramedics arrived on the scene where they found the injured pedestrians. Two adults were in a critical condition with multiple injuries. Two children, believed to be three and five years old, sustained moderate injuries. Another pedestrian, aged 19, was also found with moderate injuries. The two adults were stabilised on the scene and rushed off to Edendale Hospital by ER24 and another service for further care. The children were also transported per ambulance to the same hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident. Police that attended the scene questioned the driver of the vehicle.

At this stage the cause of the collision is not yet known.
