Car torn open in truck collision near Bapsfontein, East of Johannesburg

A head-on collision between a truck and light motor vehicle on the R50 near Bapsfontein, East of Johannesburg, has left one man critically injured.

ER24 paramedics from the Johannesburg East branch, along with Life Healthcare, responded to the scene, and on their arrival, found a heavy truck lying on its side. A light motor vehicle lay on the opposite side of the road, completely ripped open. The engine of the light motor vehicle, as well as oil and debris, lay all over the scene.

On assessment, paramedics found the driver of the light motor vehicle slumped in the passenger seat in a critical condition. Paramedics carefully removed the patient from the vehicle and provided him with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patient was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The driver of the truck fortunately escaped the collision with only minor injuries. He was treated and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
