Khayelitsha cluster police makes several car jacking and drunk driving arrests

Khayelitsha cluster police have apprehended more than 350 suspects during the period from Monday 2015-07-06 to Sunday 2015-07-12. This was as a result of various operations conducted in different police stations in the cluster. Some of the arrests were achieved due to strong partnership policing with other law enforcement agencies including Metro Police and Traffic department. The arrests ranged from Murder, House Robbery, Possession of stolen motor vehicle, Robbery Aggravated, Assault GBH, and Housebreaking and theft.

Other police initiated arrests such as stop and search, resulted in police making crucial arrests like possession of dangerous weapons, possession of illegal firearms, possession of drugs, driving under influence of alcohol and dealing in liquor. The arrests made were complemented by successful confiscation. Five (5) illegal firearms, 133g of tik, 3405g of dagga, 33 mandrax tablets and were all confiscated during stop and search operations and execution of search warrants. These operations resulted in 97 suspects being arrested for possession of illegal substances and five (5) for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

A total of three (3) suspects were arrested for murder, five (5) for business robbery, forty (40) for Assault common and GBH, two (2) for Carjacking and eleven (11) for drunk driving. Most of the assaults occurred while people are drinking alcohol which is the reason why the police have intensified the shebeen operations. Out of the shebeens that were raided a total of 149,720 litres of alcohol was confiscated, four suspects arrested and charged for dealing in liquor. Police have vowed not to be derailed by minority of criminal elements in their endeavors to curb crime in the communities.
