Road crash victim airlifted from crash at Umkomaas

KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics have responded to the R102 at Umkomaas, where there has been a collision reportedly involving two light motor vehicles. Three people have been injured in the crash and have been treated by paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and several private ambulance services.

A one of the patients a young man was trapped inside his wrecked vehicle and had to be extricated, he had been critically injured during the crash. The KZN Department of Health’s helicopter was called to the scene to airlift this patient to hospital. The helicopter landed on the road near the crash scene, the man was loaded into the helicopter before being flown to hospital.

The other injured patients, a pregnant lady and a young man had sustained serious injuries and were treated on scene before being transported to local hospitals, including GJ Crookes hospital, for continued medical care.

The police are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
