One person has been killed after a fully loaded taxi lost control and rolled down off the M13 East Bound near Shongweni just after 06:30am this morning.
Rescue Care and Meditech paramedics arrived on the scene to find total chaos. Multiple people were entrapped in the wreckage which lay on its side. Immediately more ambulances as well as Rescue Services were dispatched to assist with the mass casualty scene. One person unfortunately passed away and a further fifteen people had sustained various injuries ranging from minor to serious. Advanced Life Support paramedics worked to stabilize all of the injured on the scene before the injured were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and roll down the embankment however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further
