Braamfontein crash leaves pedestrian dead and one injured

A pedestrian has lost her life and a man was injured during an accident on De Beer Street near Smit Road in Braamfontein late this afternoon.

Netcare 911 paramedics, members of the City of Johannesburg Fire Department and other services arrived at the scene and found that two motor vehicles were involved in a side-impact crash. One of the vehicles then knocked over a pedestrian at the side of the road.

Upon assessment of the thirty-six-year-old pedestrian, paramedics immediately started with resuscitation efforts but sadly the woman died due to the extensive injuries sustained during the accident. There was nothing further that paramedics could do for the woman and she was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was found to have sustained serious injuries during the accident and after receiving treatment at the scene, the injured man was transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are unknown and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
