Child left critical after tractor accident at farm near Stellenbosch

A 13-year-old boy was left in a critical condition yesterday after he fell off a tractor on a farm on the R44 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics were called to the farm were, on arrival, they found the child next to the tractor and trailer.

On assessment, paramedics found that the boy had sustained severe injuries and fractures to both his legs.

Treatment and advanced life support interventions were performed on the before he was immobilised.

Once treated, the patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to Tygerburg Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

It is understood that the child lost his balance and fell off the tractor where the wheels of the trailer rode over his legs.

Local authorities will be investigating further.
