Hijacked truck intercepted, driver on the loose after jumping from truck

The White River Flying Squad together with members of Kaapmuiden intercepted a truck that was hijacked at Delmas

The horse and trailer truck, estimated at approximately R1.7m, were on the Barberton road en-route to the N4 when it was stopped just after 05:00 by the assiduous members.

According to information by the members, they spotted the truck and signalled the driver to stop; however, the driver ignored the instruction by the cops and drove on. The police became suspicious through the conduct of the driver that something was wrong. The officials persisted and continued to signal the driver to stop; the truck driver managed to join the N4 Road and turn towards the Nkomazi Toll Plaza in Kaapmuiden. Seeing that the police barricaded the road with an attempt to deny him to pass through, the driver made a U-turn and faced towards the Nelspruit direction.

The diligent members fired shots aimed at the wheels of the truck and when the miscreant noticed that the police were hot on his heels, he tried to push the police car to veer off the road. His entire attempt failed and he decided to jump off from the truck while it was still in motion and ran into the bushes, the truck came to a standstill and no one was injured.

The management of the police in Mpumalanga is pleased with the manner in which trucks that have been hijacked or stolen are being intercepted before they can be returned to their lawful owners.
