Minibus crash claims five victims in KwaDabeka

The MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Willies Mchunu, has expressed shock after receiving word that yet another accident that has claimed the lives of five victims in KwaDabeka.

Preliminary reports reveal that a minibus lost control and crashed into a school property due to suspected break failure. There were five people who died including two children aged between 3 and 5 years. One person died on the scene and four died at KwaDabeka clinic. It is reported that the driver is still in a critical condition at KwaDabeka clinic and a case of culpable homicide has been opened pending investigation by the forensic experts.

“This accident comes soon after the horrific Shaka’s Head, near Ballito, accident that claimed the lives of 16 people last week Monday. It is disturbing to learn that more people are still losing their lives after so much effort has been done by the government and other stakeholders to fight this demon. It is more saddening to lose young lives in what could have been avoided if people adhered to the rules of the road. I want to appeal to all motorists to be extra vigilant when driving and that includes checking the vehicles’ roadworthiness, fatigue, seatbelts and driving within regulated speed limits. On behalf of the government, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” said Mchunu
