A man is in a critical condition after an accident along Longbury Drive in Phoenix this afternoon at around 14h45. A report from the scene indicates that the vehicle veered off the roadway and plunged into a water drainage area. Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the driver still trapped in a badly mangled wreckage . Firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the wounded man while paramedics clambered into the wreckage to stabilise him.
After the patient was fully immobilised medics removed him from the twisted metal and then had to carry him up to the roadway where the ambulance was parked. The patient was transported under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic to a nearby hospital for the care that he required.
