2 killed in major crash on M7, Durban

Two people have been killed in a horrific accident on the M7 East bound under the N2 interchange.

Rescue Care paramedics were called to the horrific accident just after 11:15am and found absolute carnage when they arrived on the scene. A truck had collided with two cars and another truck before losing control and colliding with the bridge. Both the truck driver and one of the vehicle drivers were entrapped in the wreckage. Immediately Durban Fire Department as well as Durban SAPS Search and Rescue unit were called to assist. Paramedics quickly extricated the car driver who went into sudden cardiac arrest and Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support paramedic began resuscitating the 83 year old however he had suffered severe injuries and after thirty minutes of resuscitation was declared deceased at the scene.

The one truck driver was severely entrapped in the wreckage, suffered severe injuries and was also declared deceased on the scene. One truck driver sustained minor injuries and was stabilized on the scene before being transported by Rescue Care to a nearby private facility for the further care that he required.

At this stage it is unclear what led up to the collision however the SAPS Accident investigation unit was in attendance and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as the M7 was closed in both directions whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
