Eight children injured in Pietermaritzburg collision

Eight children were injured this morning following a collision between a taxi and bakkie on Sweetwaters Road in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.

When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene, they found the taxi and bakkie had parked on the side of the road. Children that had been in the taxi at the time of the collision were now found sitting next to their vehicle.

On further assessment, paramedics found that eight children had sustained only minor injuries in the collision. Fortunately no-one had sustained any serious or fatal injuries in this incident.

Paramedics treated the children for their injuries and thereafter transported them to Edendale Hospital for further care.

It is understood that the children were being transported to school when the collision occurred.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
