Five people were injured last night, four critically, when two bakkies collided head-on on the R26 near Ficksburg in the Free State.
ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial Services, arrived on scene and found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road.
On assessment, paramedics found that five men had been injured in the collision, four of them critically.
Paramedics carefully removed the patients from the vehicles, treated them and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to a hospital in Bethlehem for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
