A man was killed and two others injured this morning after a bakkie and truck collided head-on on the N3 near the Liberty Mall in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find a bakkie lying crushed in the middle of the road with a truck parked near the roadside barriers.
On assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of the male driver lying trapped inside the bakkie. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics.
On further assessment, paramedics found that both occupants from the truck had sustained moderate injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to Northdale Hospital for further treatment.
The deceased body was later removed from the vehicle by fire services using the jaws-of-life.
Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
