Truck driver escapes serious injury on N3 Cato Ridge collision

A truck driver in his thirties is fortunate to have sustained only minor injuries when his truck collided into the back of a stationary truck on the N3 Cato Ridge south off ramp.

Shortly after 6am paramedics arrived on scene and found the severely mangled wreck on the side of the road. Initially they [paramedics] expected to find that the occupant(s) of the truck sustained critical injuries. Upon assessment they found that the driver was sitting on a nearby guardrail with only a few scrapes and bruises.

The driver explained to paramedics that he managed to climb out of the mangled wreckage prior to paramedics’ arrival. He was treated on scene and transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the other truck could not be located on the scene at the time. Local authorities attended the incident.
