A man was left in a critical condition last night after a light motor vehicle and truck collided on Putfontein Road in Benoni.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the light motor vehicle lying partially beneath the large truck.
On assessment, paramedics found that the driver of the light motor vehicle lay trapped and was in a critical condition.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle, to gain access to the patient.
Once freed, paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support treatment and thereafter transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The driver of the truck was found to have sustained only minor injuries. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
