N2 Umhlali crash leaves one dead

This morning Netcare 911 paramedics were called to a rear end collision on the N2 near the Umhlali River Bridge. Reports from the scene indicate that the bakkie clipped the rear of a stationary vehicle in the fast lane, veered off and rolled several times.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the driver was ejected from the wreckage as he was unrestrained and was found several meters away from the wreckage of his vehicle with life threatening injuries.

Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the injured man at the scene and after placing him on a manual ventilator, they immobilised him on a trauma board and then transported the man to a nearby hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic. Tragically the man died soon after arriving at the hospital.

Paramedics have attended a large increase in accidents on our roads in the last week and ask motorists to slow down and increase their following distances. It is also imperative to buckle up as it reduces the severity of the injuries.
