Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has expanded its extremely popular and successful Ford Fiesta range with the addition of the economical and value-oriented 1.0 EcoBoost Ambiente Manual derivative.
This brings the total number of Fiesta five-door models to ten, with many of these powered by the multiple award-winning 1.0 EcoBoost engine. This unit was awarded the International Engine of the Year title for a record three years running (2012-2014), and has won the sub-1-litre category for the past four years.
“Since the expansion of the Ford Fiesta EcoBoost range in March this year, we have been able to significantly increase our share of the ultra-competitive B-segment,” says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
“A total of 9 744 Fiestas have been sold between January and November 2015, including monthly sales of over 1 000 units on three occasions, in June, August and October. This confirms the success of the impressive 1.0 EcoBoost engine, and the confidence that buyers have in Ford’s cutting-edge EcoBoost technology that delivers exceptional performance matched to outstanding fuel economy and low running costs.
“The introduction of the value-oriented Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Ambiente Manual enhances that appeal further. We expect it to be a very popular choice amongst private buyers, as well as corporate, fleet and rental customers,” Delate says.
The new addition to the Fiesta line-up joins the 1.0 EcoBoost Ambiente PowerShift Automatic that was introduced in March, and is powered by the same 74kW version of this engine, linked to a five-speed manual transmission. With an impressive 170Nm of torque available between 1 400 and 4 500 r/min, it delivers outstanding in-gear tractability and performance.
Smart Regenerative Charging is standard on the EcoBoost engine, and helps reduce fuel consumption by selectively engaging the alternator and changing the battery when the vehicle is coasting and braking.

As a result, the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost is credited with a combined cycle fuel consumption of just 4.3 l/100km*, while producing an extremely low 99g of CO2 per km*.
In entry-level Ambiente trim the Fiesta boasts an impressive list of standard safety features, including Ford’s advanced Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS), ABS brakes with Emergency Brake Assistance, driver and passenger airbags, seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters, ISOFIX child-seat anchors and the “Follow-me-home” headlight function.
Vehicle security, comfort and convenience features extend to remote-operated central locking with standard immobiliser, electric front windows, heated and powered side mirrors, a 12-volt power point in the centre console, steering-wheel mounted audio controls and air-conditioning.
Ford’s sophisticated SYNC® multimedia and connectivity system is standard, and incorporates a radio and MP3-compatible CD player, USB and auxiliary audio connections, as well as Bluetooth with voice control.
Aside from the two Ambiente derivatives, the 1.0 EcoBoost engine is also available in Trend and top-spec Titanium guise – each of which is offered with the choice of a five-speed manual transmission (92kW) or the responsive six-speed PowerShift Automatic (74kW).
Additionally, there are two 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi models (70kW/200Nm) with five-speed manual gearboxes in the line-up in Ambiente and Trend trim levels, as well as the entry-level normally-aspirated 1.4 Ambiente (71kW/128 Nm).
The range is topped off with the spirited three-door Fiesta ST, which has won numerous ‘hot hatch’ titles – both in South Africa and internationally. It is powered by a performance-oriented 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine with 134kW and 240Nm on tap.

All Fiesta models are sold with a four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, four-year/60 000km service plan, three-year/unlimited km roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty.
Service intervals are every 20 000km on the EcoBoost petrol engines and every 15 000km on the Duratorq TDCi diesel engines.
