KZN Health EMS Helicopter responds to the rescue of 5 year-old boy hit by car

A year-old child is in a critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in F section in KwaMashu, north of Durban, earlier this afternoon.

Paramedics from the KZN Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services and paramedics from a private ambulance responded to the incident near Mkhwanazi Road in F section KwaMashu.

The boy was found to be in a critical condition and the KZN Department of Health’s EMS helicopter was called to the scene. The paramedics continued to stabilize the child at the scene.

The helicopter landed at a nearby sports field and the child was handed over to the flight paramedics, for the short flight by air to hospital for continued medical care.

The exact circumstances resulting in the crash are not known at this stage.
