Vigilant Bloemfontein cyclist helps police to arrest suspects and recover stolen items

The 45 years old man residing at Pentagon Park in Bloemfontein was cycling in Raymond Mhlaba Street on Sunday morning (2016-01-10) at about 06:30 when three unknown African Males approached him and one punched him in the ribs. He managed to cycle away from them and called 10111.  He then followed the suspects from a distance until the police arrived, and then went to Navalsig Police Station to open a case of common assault.

The Navalsig Vispol members chased the suspects until at the quarry between Navalsig and Bayswater where they discovered two (2) Sony flat screens, a music system, two laptops, a blanket and a towel. On further investigation the items were linked to a recent burglary residential incident in Bayswater. Whilst the police were busy searching the second suspect a fire arm revolver with 35 rounds was found in his possession and was linked to another burglary residential that occurred in December 2015 in Bayswater.

Three suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties. Later during the day the fourth suspect was arrested. All suspects aged between 18 and 29 will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate court soon.
