Truck overturns in Pinetown killing one person and injuring two others

A man was killed and two others injured this morning following a truck collision on the N3 highway near the Marrionill plaza in Pinetown, KwaZulu Natal.

When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene, they found that a truck carrying scrap metal as well as a light motor vehicle had been involved in the collision.

The truck was found lying upside down in the centre medium of the two highways with its contents of scrap metal spread across the highway.

On assessment, paramedics found a body of a lifeless man lying a few metres away from the truck. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his fatal injuries. He was later declared dead on scene.

Two other patients were found on the scene. One male patient was found lying trapped inside the truck and the second patient was found lying inside the light motor vehicle. Both patients had sustained moderate injuries.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped man from the truck.

Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and thereafter transported them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

It is understood that the driver lost control of the truck, causing it to roll over the centre barrier and colliding with a light motor vehicle.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
