Winklespruit pedestrian crash leaves man seriously injured

On Monday evening at 18h08 Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a pedestrian crash on the N2 north in Winklespruit KZN. Reports from the scene indicate that the man estimated to be in his late twenties, ran across the highway about 50 meters from a bridge running under the N2. The man seems to have underestimated the speed and distance of the vehicle and ended up being hit by a Mercedes traveling towards Amanzimtoti.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying prone in the centre median with life threatening injuries. The damage on the vehicle indicates that the man slid across the bonnet of the car causing his head to smash the windshield on the driver side. Fortunately the driver managed to control the vehicle and although traumatised, escaped injury.

Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the man on scene and after they placed him on a ventilator, they had to spinal immobilise him on a trauma board. The patient was then transported to a government hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic for the specialised care that he required.
