KZN Transport reveals safety plans for Easter

Transport , Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu has this morning unveiled the provincial Easter Road Safety Campaign on the N2 – Oribi Plaza, Port Shepstone.

This year’s campaign focuses on escalating the importance of respecting road signs and rules, the safety of all roads users, primarily pedestrians and cyclists.

Multi-disciplinary enforcement operations targeting busy highways will be mounted across the province.

The launch also featured a visit to the Port Shepstone taxi rank where Mchunu announced new and improved security measures for the Port Shepstone and Margate taxi ranks following violence that broke out last year involving various associations in the area.

“We have deliberately combined today’s Easter road safety launch with the announcement of improved security measures for the taxi ranks. We have handed over the security personnel, who have been contracted by the Department of Transport to monitor operations at the taxi rank. This is part of the series of interventions we are making to improve safety and mitigate
violence and conflict in the taxi industry,” said Mchunu.
